Mark was the first of 10 inmates released from the Illinois Department of Corrections as part of a new pilot project. However, Mark would be walking out of prison into an empty apartment. There would be no bed or basics. When we heard of Mark’s need, we didn’t hesitate to help. We partnered with CPAH in their program to reduce recidivism. CPAH will provide one-bedroom apartments for 10 former prisoners, but need the community to come together in support. We are privileged to provide the dignity of a decent bed to all participants in the program.
Community support can reduce recidivism. By working together, providing basic housing and beds, we can support people in need of forgiveness and a fresh start with a soft place to land.
When we realized Mark’s new apartment was just a few blocks from a great church, we called and connected Pastor Luke with Mark. “I just received a call from Mark. He is extremely grateful for all the gifts with PURPOSE left in his apartment. A man in our church is going to help him find employment, and he is asking our van driver to pick him up for worship on Sunday. May God continue to use you mightily.”
